Getting clients
How to get your first 10 coaching clients

Practical ways new health and wellness coaches find their first ten clients: your network, free consults, partnerships, content and referrals.
Your first ten clients matter more than any logo or website. They give you experience, results to talk about and referrals. Here's where most coaches find them.
Start with people who already know you
Make a list of 50 people: friends, past coworkers, people from your gym, your faith community, your training program. You're not selling to them. You're telling them what you do and asking who they know who might need it.
Offer a free consult, not free coaching
A 20-minute consult lets people see what working with you feels like. Use it to understand their goal, explain your package and invite them to start. Giving away weeks of free coaching rarely turns into paying clients.
Partner with people who see your clients first
Personal trainers, physical therapists, chiropractors, yoga studios and local employers all talk to people who could use a coach. Offer a free workshop for their clients or staff. One good partner can send you clients for years.
Share what you know, often
Pick one place your clients spend time and post there every week. Short, useful tips work better than polished ads. Answer common questions, share a simple habit to try, and tell people how to book a consult.
Run a small group challenge
A free or low-cost 14-day challenge, such as a walking challenge or an early bedtime challenge, gives people an easy way to try your coaching. At the end, invite the most engaged people to join your program.
Ask for referrals at the right moment
The best time to ask is right after a client reaches a goal. Keep it simple: "Do you know anyone who'd want help with this too?" Make it easy by giving them a link or a short message they can forward.
Track it
Keep a short list of every consult: where they heard about you and whether they signed up. After your first ten clients, you'll know which of these to keep doing.
